Nick is passionate about criminal defense. He understands how daunting it can be for an individual when a prosecutor trains the power of the state on that person, including accompanying threats of fines and jail time. Just as each case is different, so are each client's goals. In some cases, it makes sense to take the case to trial and force the state to try and meet its burden in front of a jury. In others, it may be best to strategically negotiate a plea bargain. Nick’s job is to determine where each client is coming from and collaborate with them in order to determine which option is best to resolve their case. His goal is to be there every step of the way to ensure the best possible defense is put forth and that his clients are heard and supported during their case.

Why We Stand Out
Nick brings a holistic viewpoint to each case. Prior to joining Peterson Legal, Nick worked for several years at a non-profit criminal defense firm, representing clients facing misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor, and felony level charges. Prior to that, Nick worked for a district court judge handling serious felony matters. Additionally, while in law school, Nick worked for a prosecutors office handling all levels of criminal cases. Because of these experiences, Nick is able to see each case from the viewpoint of not just a defense attorney, but from the viewpoint of a judge or prosecutor as well.
Compassionate Representation: At Peterson Legal, our clients are not just cases -- they're human beings. We understand that anyone facing criminal charges, whether they are wrongly accused or simply made a mistake, deserves to be viewed as a whole person and treated with compassion and respect.
While we bring the legal knowledge, we work to ensure that our clients understand what's happening, and why, at every step of the way. Our clients will be able to make fully informed decisions, and understand the process every step of the way.
At the end of a case, while our representation may be finished, we pride ourselves on continuing to be a resource for our clients going forward. If there are any additional follow-up questions, resources needed, or new legal matters, we value being there for our former clients as needed.
